Checking the pool before you buy or rent a villa in the UAE
Look at the water, the shell, the enclosure and the plant room, and ask for the pool's registration, maintenance records and repair history. In Dubai the owner is responsible for keeping a private pool registered, safe and maintained, so gaps in the paperwork are worth taking seriously. If you see water loss, cracks, damp or tired equipment, book a professional inspection before you commit.

How to choose a pool repair specialist in the UAE
Check that the company's trade licence is active and covers pool work, choose a specialist whose experience matches your problem and pool type, and insist on written findings and a written scope before work starts. Ask about warranty terms, insurance and references, and be wary of anyone who wants to break out tiles or concrete before the cause has been confirmed.

Pool repair warranties and written quotes: what to get in writing before work starts
Before work starts, get a written quote that defines the diagnosis, scope, products, exclusions, price, payment stages and timetable, and a written warranty that says what is covered, for how long and on what conditions. UAE consumer law requires a dated invoice in Arabic and obliges providers to guarantee a service for a period suited to its nature. On larger renovations, holding back part of the price until defects are fixed is common practice, and the handover should come with photographs, test results and manuals.

Pool safety for homes with children in the UAE: barriers, covers, alarms and supervision
In Dubai, the Dubai Municipality private pool guideline requires every private pool to have a permanent enclosure at least 1.20 m high with outward-opening, self-closing, self-latching gates, and recommends a safety cover or net as an extra layer. WHO, CDC and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission agree that fencing, constant adult supervision, swimming lessons and CPR skills work together. Covers and alarms add protection but replace none of these.

Rules and approvals for pool work in the UAE
In Dubai, private villa pools must be registered with Dubai Municipality before construction, and both private and public pools must not be altered or modified without its approval; shared pools in buildings and compounds count as public pools and are run by the management entity. In Abu Dhabi, the municipal swimming pool guide requires a licence for operating or modifying pools other than private villa pools. For any specific job, check with the relevant authority and your building or community management before work starts.

What to prepare before contacting a pool specialist
Have the pool type and approximate age, a dated description of the symptoms, water loss measurements or a bucket test result, photos and videos, photos of equipment labels and gauge readings, and any drawings or maintenance logs. Sort out access to the plant room and, for shared or community pools, permission from building management before the visit.
